Crowdfunding: 8 Ways To Say Thank You

When it comes to the words "thank you," knowing what to say is just as important as how you say it. It's always personal, even with donation-based campaigns.

Donation-based crowdfunding is very similar to traditional fundraising whereas donors give because they want to support a cause. They should not expect anything in return. (Well, nothing but the good feeling of doing something nice.) On platforms such as FreeFunder, the weight of thank you is even heavier because you cannot give a reward or equity to your backers the way you can on Indiegogo or Kickstarter. But you can still say thanks for your support.

How to Say Thank You

If you are launching a campaign, here are eight fun and simple ways to say thank you to someone who cared enough to donate funds to your cause,

Live Streaming Event - Hang out with your donors via a live-streaming platform such as Facebook Live or YouTube Live. Like in person events, these events bring together people with similar interests so it's a great way for people to meet, too.

Infographics - Use Canva to create infographics, cards or posters of your campaign timeline. It's an easy way to show donors how you got to the finish line with their help.

Email - Send a thank you email to your donors. You can use an email template but do not send bulk email. Use an email marketing software to send individual emails to each recipient, if necessary. No email blasts! Keep it personal.

Videos and Pictures - Give your donors a picture or video created just for them. Don't share it during your campaign!

Personalized Image - Hire someone on Fiverr to create a downloadable, personalized image with your campaign info on it. For example: if you raised money to save an animal, have someone on Fiverr make a cartoon of the grateful, "smiling" animal.

Social Media - Everyone loves a great shout out so give a big shout out to your supporters on a social media platform. Ask your team to share it with their networks. It's an easy way to put your donors in the spotlight.

Host a Private Event - Host a free concert or live event for your backers. You can live-stream the event for those who cannot attend.

Thank You Letter - Who can resist a great thank you letter? The Red Cross has been thanking donors with notes and letters for over a 100 years. It works!

There are lots of creative ways to say thank you. Use one of these eight ideas to say it to your donors. Like their kindness, your gratitude will go a long way.

Matt and Heather Sweetman needed help getting a part-time caregiver for their daughter, Finley, who has Quadriplegia Spastic Cerebral Palsy. Their friend Abby Peachey created a FreeFunder fundraiser to help raise enough money to cover a full year, estimated at $15,600.

With the help of friends, family, and the community, the fundraiser has raised more than $28,000 so far.

"We want to express our deepest gratitude. We are overwhelmed by the generosity we have received and the encouragements and kind words from so many. Thank you for bearing our burden with us. You have strengthened our faith and given us hope. Many, many blessings to you." - Matt and Heather Sweetman
