2023 100MON Acewood Amble

What Is The 100 Miles of Nowhere?

Originally, the 100 Miles of Nowhere was a race without a place. Elden Nelson (the Fat Cyclist) did the first 100 Miles of Nowhere by himself, back before he knew it would be annual at all. He did it in a basement on a trainer. The second year a bunch of folks — from all around the world — did it (separately) together, and people sent in their stories, many of which were published at Fatcyclist.com. Since then, the event has had as many as 500 riders annually.

The 100 Miles of nowhere is a ride to support local organizations or causes, and each year we make a real difference by coming together Wi provide much needed resources to make change in our local community. This year the ride entry and donation proceeds will be split to support two amazing organizations, Trans Advocacy Madison, and the Women's Medical Fund of Wisconsin.

Trans Advocacy Madison works to provide support for the Trans community in the Madison area by providing connection to resources, advocacy at the local and governmental level, and assisting with and facilitating local events for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Women's Medical Fund of Wisconsin works to fill the gaps in abortion access by providing direct financial assistance to Wisconsin residents who need an abortion but cannot afford the full cost of such care.

For many years I've ridden this ride as originally intended, by myself, with many friends and supporters joining in for parts and coming to cheer me on. This year I'm inviting people to join me in making this event a community effort. Joining in to ride either 100 miles or 50 miles with me either as individuals or as a team relay effort.

The event date is Saturday, September 16, and the course will be a 1.2-mile loop around Acewood Park on the east side of Madison. 84 laps completes the full 100 miles, 42 laps is 50 miles. The route can be found (and followed via the free to download app) via Ridespot: https://ridespot.org/rides/1159592

So, what am I asking from you? To Join in! riders can choose the distance they want to cover, and they can choose to ride it all by themselves, or as a relay effort with a team. Timing and placement will not be kept. You are a winner if you come out and challenge yourself.

While the event will have a refreshment and simple first aid table, this ride is considered self-supported, volunteers will be on hand to facilitate the smooth start and end of the event and will not be able to assist with mechanical bike issues or medical issues. this ride follows the same tried and true basic premise of the Monday 40 ride series (@Monday_40 on Instagram): You are responsible for yourself. Know what you need for your bike, know what you need for yourself (food, hydration, etc). Again, you are responsible for yourself. Wear whatever you feel like wearing but dress for the weather. Bring a flat kit in case you get in a pickle and need to fix your bike.

By attending the ride, you agree to and will absolve and hold harmless all parties connected with this event in any way whatsoever, singly and collectively, from and against any blame or liability for any injury, misadventure, harm, loss, inconvenience or damage suffered or sustained as a result of participation in the 100 Miles of Nowhere You shall abide by the rules and regulations of the event, abide by traffic laws and regulations, and practice courtesy and safety in bicycling.
