A Home For New Beginnings
Hey folx, friends, family, and kind strangers!
My name is Phoenix Paintin, and I’m reaching out for support as I take a huge step toward homeownership—something I never thought would be possible.
If you’re rolling your eyes thinking, "Great, another crowdfunding campaign—why can’t millennials just pull themselves up by their bootstraps?" … I kindly invite you to stop here. No hard feelings! This isn’t a sob story; it’s a story of hope, resilience, and new beginnings.
A Little Backstory
I was raised by a single mom who worked tirelessly to provide for me and my sisters. We relied on WIC, Section 8, and the kindness of others to meet basic needs—winter coats, child care, a place to call home. Stability was never a given, and as a parentified kid, I learned the hard truths of the world in the wrong order.
But here’s the beautiful part: getting sober gave me the chance to rewrite my story. I’ve spent the last several years shedding survival-mode habits and embracing a life built on intention, not just endurance.
They say when one chapter closes, another begins. This next chapter? It’s about building something lasting—something that’s truly mine.
Why I’m Asking for Help
I work 40–50 hours a week for the Portland Housing Authority, managing a caseload of 300+ people who receive rent assistance. Now, in a twist of fate, I’m the one asking for housing support.
I’ve been actively exploring resources like Portland Housing Center and Proud Ground, hoping to find assistance and education for first-time homebuyers. Unfortunately, while these programs are amazing, I’ve hit roadblocks—either due to limited funding availability or strict criteria that I don’t quite meet. Despite these challenges, I’m committed to making this dream happen.
I’ve saved a small stipend from a car accident settlement and am putting every penny toward my down payment. I have an amazing realtor, I’ve spoken with lenders, and I’m doing everything in my power to make this a reality. But there are still hurdles—closing costs, moving expenses, and the essentials needed to start over (I don’t even have a dining table anymore!).
I’m swallowing my pride and putting myself out there because I believe in community, in generosity, and in the power of asking for help when it’s needed.
How You Can Help
Whether it’s $20, sharing this campaign, or simply sending good vibes—every bit of support means the world to me. My three furkids and I dream of a safe, stable home (preferably with a yard where they can zoom around like maniacs).
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of my journey.
With love and gratitude,
Phoenix
