Bonete Rodriguez Scholarship
In the memory of Josefina Rodriguez Bonete, her family decided to set up a fund for her scholarship in lieu of flowers/monetary donations for her funeral.
Josefina Rodriguez Bonete passed away peacefully on July 12, 2019 surrounded by her family and loved ones. One of her greatest joys in life was sharing her passion of education with others.
Education was very important to her that together with her husband, they have supported over 45 underprivileged students in Malinao, Philippines from high school to college. These students were the beneficiaries of the Bonete Rodriguez Scholarship Foundation, which they founded to help the underprivileged children by giving financial assistance to the education of these students. She delighted in seeing someone from a poverty stricken family grow to be educated. All she asked in return is for that student to pay it forward by assisting someone else. This charitable foundation has helped create professional teachers, nurses, engineers, and other professions, which are now contributing to the development of their respective families and communities.
Your donations will help keep her Scholarship Fund continuing for those in her community in the Philippines and more. Any amount is greatly appreciated. In a letter to her grandchild, Josefina wrote "Education sums up all the academic activities. It is the Best Tool and Asset that will never fade. It is all yours, regardless of age, anywhere you go, and any situation or environment you live in."
Bio of Josefina Rodriguez's education:
She obtained her teaching credentials with a degree of Bachelor in Education from Phillippine Normal College, then a Master's degree in Education at the Philippine National University. She served over 25 years as an educator in different barrio schools in Malinao, Philippines before becoming the Elementary School Principal in Malinao Central school. Her dedication and excellence to her job and teaching profession enabled her Superior to offer a promotion to be a District Supervisor to multiple schools, but she chose to bring her family to the United States instead.
In 1975, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Hayward, California. Her love of teaching continued in her new country that she became a substitute teacher for the Hayward Unified School District. She worked for the Alameda County Social Services until she retired in 1994.
