Emmy's Teeth for Speech!
Hello! Thank you for visiting our campaign page and having an intrest in helping my cutie pie Emmy!
Emmy is just 2 years old and has been through alot healthwise. She is a very smart and determined little girl. When Emmy was 14 months old a dentist told me some spots on her front teeth were signs of her teeth demineralizing and he needed to put her under general anesthesia and do surgery to put crowns on her 4 front teeth to save them from starting to rott. I was beside myself. Scared for the surgery and her going under being so small but he insisted it had to be done. Out of pocket it would cost us $2200. We are not financially well off. We work hard to support our daughters and did not have much savings but we scraped together to make it happen. To my horror, 5 months after Emmy's surgery one of her crowns broke off the tooth at the gum line and left a huge space. Emmy was in pain. Her pulp was exposed and she was miserable. Assuming her dentist would correct the issue we rushed her in for an emergency appointment. What happened next made me sick. Her dentist told me because of her age and weight she has to be put completely under and not sedated. He said my insurance will not cover it and we should FIND ANOTHER DENTIST. He rudely dumped us as patients and refused to treat my suffering toddler. He was correct. Out dental insurance would not pay and not one dentist within 150 miles would pull the tooth in the office. I spent 2 months taking her to 3 Childrens Hospitals and about 15 different dentists. Emmy developed a serious infection with a dental abcess the size of a dime. She stopped eating. She looked pale and sick and had to stay on antibiotics for 55 days straight. The cost of the surgery was $9k. My parents helped, I sold my car but we still couldn't come up with the money. Then an angel dentist appeared. He is a pediatric oral surgeon and does not have a traditional office. After trying to reach him for a month he called me back and got us right in. He took one look at Emmy and told me that her situation had become life threatening and the original dental work was completely unnessecary. The first dentist duped us. The angel dentist moved my daughter before 120 patients and had her in surgery 4 days later. He covered the rest of the money we couldn't come up with by waiving his fees. He ended up having to remove 2 of Emmy's front teeth and when he came out of surgery he informed me my daughter was days away from the bacterial infection spreading to her brain. He saved my little girls life. He is a hero. I have never been so grateful for anything in my life....
Now my sweet girl is happy and playful and no longer in pain. However another hurdle has presented itself to Emmy. She has a hard time speaking without the teeth and has almost completely stopped and now Meows instead. Emmy is very smart. She was speaking in full sentences before age 2. The Dr. has told me Emmy needs a partial "denture" retainer with 2 false teeth that will help her be able to speak clearly and not get upset so that she gives up. She has been through so much and I am at a loss that her development is being halted.
We are trying to raise the money to pay for the out of pocket cost of this "partial denture" Unfortunately, we are deeply in the red after her surgery and have nothing of value left to sell and our family has already given us all they had for her surgery. Hopefully the kindness and charity of strangers, people who care with big hearts will be able to help us get Emmy the retainer she needs.
I must say I do feel weird and a little ashamed of putting our business out for all to see and asking people for money. But I have recieved alot of emotional support and encouragement to go ahead with this. After reading some of the other stories my heart goes out to them. And it makes our situation seem small and less important. But I hope maybe some wonderful generous people will see the need Emmy has and how this one thing will greatly affect the rest of her life by not stunting her development. Thank you for reading my (long, I apologize)story. I love my daughter and I want to see her shine and feel confident and continue on to a great and promising future. Thank you. God Bless
