Please Help Save the Sweetest Kitten I Have Ever Rescued After a Terrible Accident

I never imagined that a day that was supposed to begin a new life for this sweet kitten would turn into a tragedy.

I have rescued and cared for many cats and kittens in my community, but this little girl is truly special. She is the sweetest and gentlest cat I have ever rescued. Of the four kittens I have been fostering, she was the one I believed was most ready for adoption. She loves being around people, has a gentle personality, and deserves a loving forever home.

Today, I brought four foster kittens to PetSmart, where they were supposed to be taken in by a local shelter and eventually placed for adoption.

While I was taking their carrier out of my car, the bottom of the carrier accidentally shifted, creating a small opening. One kitten escaped and ran across the parking area. After desperately searching for her, I found her hiding underneath a very large and extremely heavy dumpster outside Logan’s Roadhouse.

Employees and shelter staff came to help. We first tried using food to lure her out, but she was terrified and would not move. I wanted to use one of her littermates, safely secured in a carrier, to encourage her to come out.

Some employees then suggested lifting and moving the dumpster. I objected because I was afraid that moving something so heavy could frighten or injure her. Unfortunately, they insisted on trying.

Three men lifted the dumpster. Because it was extremely heavy, they quickly lowered it again.

My heart sank.

The kitten was still underneath it.

I could not see exactly what happened in the narrow space, but I immediately felt that something was wrong. I screamed for them to lift the dumpster again.

When they did, she moved slightly and finally came within reach. I slowly reached underneath and gently pulled her out.

At first, we did not see any blood or obvious external injuries. But I noticed that her abdomen looked strangely sunken.

I brought her home to observe her, but her condition became extremely concerning.

She will not eat. She can barely walk or jump normally. Her breathing is fast and heavy. She has tried to vomit but cannot. She cannot rest comfortably and appears to be in pain.

I am terrified that she may have suffered serious internal injuries from being crushed.

I contacted the shelter and asked for help. Unfortunately, I was told that they cannot cover an emergency veterinary visit. They may possibly be able to help with a regular veterinary visit after receiving approval from a supervisor, but this little girl may not have time to wait.

I was also told that if she has severe internal injuries and treatment is unaffordable, euthanasia may have to be considered.

I don't want her life to end simply because I cannot afford emergency treatment.

I have always done everything I can for the homeless cats and kittens in my community. I provide food, litter, toys, shelter, time, love, and care. But an emergency veterinary bill—especially one involving X-rays, ultrasound, hospitalization, oxygen, surgery, or other treatment—is beyond what I can afford right now.

Last year, I was laid off because I could not relocate to my company's headquarters in San Francisco. Relocating was not possible for me because my mother was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, and my father is recovering from a moderate stroke he suffered earlier this year.

I am not asking for help for myself.

I am asking for help for her.

She did nothing wrong. She was a frightened little kitten hiding underneath a dumpster. She was supposed to be going to the shelter today so she could start the next chapter of her life and eventually find a family.

Instead, she came home badly injured.

Of all the cats and kittens I have rescued, she is the sweetest one. She is gentle, trusting, and loving. Before this accident, she was healthy, playful, and ready to find her forever home.

I cannot accept giving up on her without at least giving her a chance.

Any money raised will be used for her veterinary care, including emergency examination, diagnostic imaging, bloodwork, medication, hospitalization, surgery or other treatment if needed, and follow-up care. If possible, I will post veterinary records and updates so everyone who helps her can follow her progress.
