SENIOR TRAPPED IN A 91°F
Senior Stranded in Pain — Help Me Escape the Stair Torture and the Heat That Could Kill Me
My Story:
My name is Michelle. I am 75 years old, completely alone in Corona, California, and I am currently living a waking nightmare.
I suffer from agonizing, severe osteoarthritis both knees. When it flares up, my knees swell to the point where I cannot even walk across my own room.
To leave my upstairs unit, I have to face my greatest enemy: the stairs. Every single step feels like broken glass shattering in my joints. A simple, mandatory trip to the doctor for knee injections leaves me screaming in pain, suffering for a full week afterward.
Because the agony is too much to bear, I have stopped leaving. I am entirely isolated from the world. I have no husband, no children, and no family in this country to hold my hand or help me up when I fall.
The government has turned its back on me. When I begged the Office on Aging for help, they told me they had "no funds." And when I contacted S.C. Edison for help with the A/C, they said if it's broken, they don't replace it! It seems our leaders don't care unless you are already dead. But I am fighting to survive, and I desperately need you to look at my reality right now.
Right now, I am baking alive. My central air conditioning is completely broken and cannot be repaired. My upstairs unit faces the brutal sun from sunrise to sunset, turning my home into an oven that routinely hits a suffocating 91°F. Because of my swollen knees, I cannot safely walk down the stairs to escape to a public cooling center. I am trapped in the heat, terrified for my safety.
I live on a tight, fixed retirement income. Half of my check goes directly to HOA fees, and my reverse mortgage has zero equity. I have absolutely no savings left.
I am not ready to give up, but I cannot do this alone anymore. I am turning to the kindness of strangers to help me survive.
I want to be entirely transparent about the $35,000 I am asking for:
- A custom-welded outdoor curved stair lift that costs around $18,000 more or less so I can finally leave my home safely.
- A new energy-efficient A/C that costs around $15,000 so I do not suffer a heat stroke in my own living room.
Please, do not look away from me. Do not wait until it is too late to care. Even a $5 or $10 donation brings me one step closer to freedom, safety, and my dignity.
If you cannot donate, please share my story to friends and spread it. Help me reclaim my independence, my safety, and my life.
Thank you, from the very bottom of my hopeful heart, for helping me reclaim my life.
