Rickshaw Run for Charity
Nine friends! Four rickshaws! Three great charities!
[UPDATE 2017/03/21] - Thank you all for your generosity, we've beaten our original goal of $5,200 and raised it to $10,000. Our in-person fundraiser in Seattle netted us another $4,000 which put us well above and beyond. Thank you!
Please help us raise $10,000 or more for the ACLU, Greenleaf, and Cool Earth as we race motorized rickshaws across India.
Dear friends,
Nine of your nearest and dearest pals are about to race motorized rickshaws 1,800 miles across India and, in the process, raise funds for three fantastic non-profit organizations. We are reaching out to you in the hopes that you can help us meet our fundraising goal!
This April, we will be taking part in what's known as The Rickshaw Run, with the goal of raising at least $5,200 for the following three charitable organizations:
American Civil Liberties Union – an historic civil rights organization that is currently in a pitched battle to stop Donald Trump's abhorrent policies.Broadleaf – an organization helping to improve health care and education for children in the rural tea and farming communities in Northeastern India.
Cool Earth – an organization that partners with indigenous villages to protect rainforests from deforestation in South America, the Congo, and Papua New Guinea.
We believe the ACLU, Cool Earth, and Broadleaf do the kind of important work this world desperately needs right now. And we hope you can help us help them. Know that 100 percent of your donations will go to these organizations!

Together we'll be racing four motorized rickshaws against a host of teams from around the world. Our team members are:
Colin Monks - futuristic microscope maker, mountaineer, never one to question a questionable adventure
Cameron Kane - pilot, risk-taker, "seriously the nicest guy you ever met"
Matthijs Janssens - composer, photographer, at his most dashing when dressed in gold
Wes Cherry - cider maker, farmer, most likely to paint himself blue
Winda Benedetti - writer, game designer, very short person
Sven Liden - tequila maker, trouble maker, most likely to win an argument
Troy Sandal - motocross trekker, photographer, most likely to wear your pants
Patrick McGrath - entrepreneur, world traveler, most likely to need stitches
Colby Boles - rally racer, computer hacker, walking encyclopedia
The race begins April 2nd in Jaisalmer (in Northern India) and, if all goes well, ends in Kochi (in Southern India). We'll be given two weeks to make the run by whatever route we so choose. And you'll be able to follow our journey online the whole way (links coming soon)!
For each rickshaw entered in the race, the team must raise $1,300 for charity. Since our crew will be racing four rickshaws, we need to raise $5,200. Half of that must be donated to Cool Earth (the non-profit officially partnered with The Rickshaw Run) and the other half can be donated to the charitable organizations of our choice.
We selected the American Civil Liberties Union because we believe it's especially important at this time to protect the constitution, democracy, and civil rights for all, and because we respect the good work the ACLU has done over many decades.
Additionally, we decided to raise funds for Broadleaf because we feel it's important to give something back to the people of India, who have been kind enough to host this race. Broadleaf also comes to us through our team member Colin Monks, who has a friend who works for the organization.Friends, please help us raise money for these outstanding organizations.
