3 Years Stranded by C-19
This is for Chris Campbell Green and his Partner Anne.
We have been stranded overseas since the start of Covid-19. We are in South America. We came in December 2019 to train Amazonian youth to help create a better world for them. We helped initially by donating over 10,000 sets of PPE to young villagers.
There were no flights, not boats, no way of leaving. We assumed it would end and we could book travel home to NC. It didn't end. We travelled across the entire Amazon with suitcases, our small dog and hope of reaching a more developed city from where we could leave and go home. Nothing was available to us.
This was in 2021 having arrived in the region in 2019. We started relying on friends and family who sent us money to pay from a roof over our heads and a shared daily meal. Between the three of us we have lived off 3 USD a day since June 2021.
My partner has very recently had Covid-19, has been terribly sick for 10 weeks now, and is still sick, we cannot get a a Vaccine as we are foreigners, our health insurance lapsed as we couldn't afford it and we don't have access to the hospitals here as we are not residents. I have been medicating her by not eating myself and saving what we have been able to get from a friend back home to go to the pharmacy. It's far from ideal.
We cannot find any more help from friends/family who have limits, like everyone. We are having to stay in a hotel now as it is relatively clean, has drinking water and warmth (it is the winter here), my partner is still ill. We cannot afford the hotel we have been staying at due to someone who offered to help us, letting us down badly. So this is just another huge worry for me, one I am shielding my sick partner from.
We want to be at home, we need help to stay afloat here, I need my partner to get well again, well enough to travel, and we need enough to transport us back home as well. All we want to do is re-set, go out to work again, earn back what we have lost (everything really) and re-start our program to help young people. Asking for help is difficult for us. We have no options. We are so afraid of falling foul of local laws, we are already destitute and we need help. If you would like to help us in any way, small or large or even invite us to speak to young people or youth groups about never giving up, we would be glad to, and through our own experience. Thank you for getting all the way to the bottom!
