88 Y/O fined for kindness

My name is Virginia, but everyone just calls me Miss Jinny. I've learned we all need someone to lean on sometimes. After her hip surgery left me housebound, God brought some wonderful people into my life—folks who'd fallen on hard times and had nowhere else to go.

They help me with things I can't do anymore, like reaching high shelves, changing lightbulbs, keeping my little garden alive. In return, I give them the safety of my backyard to sleep, away from the dangers of the streets. We've become family.

But some neighbors complained. Now the city has fined me $1,500. For showing kindness.

My heart breaks. I don't have that kind of money..

I barely cover my medicines and utilities each month. At my age, the thought of losing my home terrifies me. Not just for myself, but for them. Where would they go?

I'm not asking for much. Just enough to pay this fine so we can keep looking after each other. A church counselor said once this is resolved, we can apply for a proper permit to continue this arrangement legally, without fear.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness create the biggest ripples. A gift of any size brings us one step closer to safety—for all of us.
