Guatemala Surgical Clinic
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to consider making a donation to help sponsor a medical mission with Health Talents International (HTI- healthtalents.org). The trip combines primary and acute care with a few days working in the hospital and others traveling for public health and work in clinics. My role as a surgical nurse will be to circulate in the operating and recovery rooms, assessing, monitoring, and spreading as much good vibes and quality care as possible.
This organization was started by a family in Nashville that I attend church with. My favorite thing about HTI is their great intent and care for so many years to support and encourage without creating unhealthy dependencies among those they serve. The clinics are consistent and well-standing within the region. HTI works in the Boca Costa region in south west Guatemala and in the department of Quiche in Central Guatemala. The Costal clinic is where they have the surgical facility. Three MD's and two dentists (all natives) work from this area holding clinics in different villages each week. In the Quiche area they have two MD's and two dentists working, as well as one Nurse Practitioner. All of these medical staff treat primary care needs, dental needs and refer patients to visiting surgical teams (that's us) for any surgical needs. Once patients have had their surgeries and are discharged from the hospital they are given a follow up appointment to see their primary care doctor within a week or two. Those MD's are the ones who provide the follow up care for all patients once the visiting US surgeons have departed so no one is left without adequate care (and those good vibes I was talking about!)
