I want to introduce you to one of the strongest women I know; Peggy Phillips!  Peggy was diagnosed in 1995 at the age of 29 with Bronchiolitis Obliterans and was at 35% lung function. In 2004 she was listed with Cleveland Clinic for a double lung transplant with a very grim prognosis. However, being the fighter that she is, Peggy decided to get another opinion and transferred to the University of Pittsburgh.  Her lung function stabilized after transferring thus putting the transplant on hold until a later date.  Unfortunately, in 2010 Peggy was hit with another tragic diagnosis; stage 3 breast cancer.  She battled that with all her might and came out victorious!  She is now cancer free!!  The breast cancer put the lung transplant on a five year hold.  No facility will even consider such an operation until you are cancer free for five years.  Praise God Peggy has been cancer free for almost six years!  Pittsburgh has now listed Peggy for a double lung transplant!  There are so many expenses involved:  travel from Youngstown, NY to Pittsburgh for doctor appointments and reevaluations while waiting for a donor, hotels, food, gas, time off of work for her devoted husband etc...We have already made what they call a "dry run" to Pittsburgh on December 19th.  That involved receiving a phone call and getting to Pittsburgh in four hours, being admitted, giving the blood, getting the X-rays, having the consultation, waiting for the lungs to arrive, prepping for surgery, waiting in the operating room to hear if the lungs are acceptable or not to hearing "the lungs are damaged."  Weary and disappointed we packed up and went back home.  No we wait for the call again!  Once the transplant takes place Peggy will need to stay in Pittsburgh up to six months.  She will need a place to live as well as her caregivers.  Her husband of 31 years will be taking time off work without pay to care for her.  This as you can imagine will be a huge financial burden for them.  Thus we as her friends have decided to set up this FreeFunder webpage.  It is our hope that you will give as you are able to help ease the financial burden.
