Life often takes turns we never expected. For Robert Dover, those turns meant years of forced distance from his son. Due to complicated family circumstances beyond his control, Robert was unable to be the presence in his son's life that he always wished to be.

The unthinkable happened. Robert’s son passed away by suicide, leaving behind a grieving family and a legacy of three children.

While the pain of that loss is immeasurable, a small light has emerged from the darkness. Through phone calls and shared stories, Robert has finally connected with the grandchildren he never got to meet—and discovered that he is now a great-grandfather as well.

The Hurdle

Despite the deep desire to hold his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in person, the "finish line" is blocked by a simple, harsh reality: finances. Living on a limited income, the cost of travel, lodging, and the logistics of a cross-country trip are currently impossible for Robert and his family to manage on their own.

The Mission

I am starting this GoFundMe to bring this family together by the end of April. We want to give Robert the chance to look into the eyes of his son’s children and grandchildren—to see his son’s legacy living on in them and to finally provide the hug that has been decades in the making.
