Hello,

My name is  Shari Carter and I need your help. I am unexpectedly raising my 2 preteen grandchildren who I love more than anything. Sadly, due to a series of life-altering health challenges, we are in desperate need of a stable and safe home. 

I am fighting against severe and debilitating health issues caused by lupus and vasculitis. Enduring extensive surgeries in the battle of two brain aneurysms, partial paralyzed stomach due to an aortic aneurysm and mesenteric vasculitis, which have left me permanently disabled. To make matters more challenging, I am undergoing chemotherapy and will continue this fight until a cure is found.

Currently, myself & my grandchildren live in a cramped three-bedroom, one-bath home with my son, his fiancée, and their son. While the love and support of my family are invaluable, the limited space makes it difficult to provide the stability and healing environment we need to grieve, grow and thrive. A tiny home or granny flat is our hope.

My aim is to raise $45,000 to help secure a safe, accessible tiny home where I can create lasting memories with my grandchildren under the care and support of my family. This home will not only provide the comfort and care we desperately need but will also be a nurturing space for my grandchildren to grow, learn, and play. 

Lupus is an uncertain disease with severe adverse effects from the disease itself as well as the medications and treatments used to help. 

Keeping this in mind. I have checked with the city and it’s fine to have a tiny home or ADU here and if circumstances change in the future, it can be towed. It is small enough to not overwhelm my ability to care for and clean it, even on the bad days. It also gives me the security of having my son a few feet away while maintaining as much independence as possible for as long as possible. 

It will give the grandkids a sense of security in their future knowing they have a home that is theirs surrounded by the people who love them most in the world. Where they can finish out school without having to stress about adult problems.
