A Mom's Housing Crisis

I am writing this urgently to help a dedicated mother and her teenage daughter escape an unsafe and volatile living situation in Sumter County.

"Mia" is an incredibly strong woman. For the past year, she has done everything in her power to provide for her daughter. They have been sharing a very small, single rented room.

Tragically, the person who rented the room—someone Mia thought was a friend—has created a truly abusive and hostile environment. Mia and her daughter are subjected to almost daily verbal and mental abuse. Compounding the danger, this landlord is a severe, continuous alcoholic whose aggression dramatically increases when she drinks. Mia is currently trapped in a dynamic where she is belittled, demeaned, and treated as though she has no control over her own safety.

The father of her daughters, who desperately wants to help, is unfortunately incarcerated out of state on an unrelated, non-violent charge and cannot provide any means of assistance. Mia has felt alone and cornered, and the abuse has now escalated to the point where her teenage daughter feels she can no longer survive the environment and is forced to leave. Mia is terrified that this situation will leave her daughter homeless, or force Mia to remain trapped in the abuse to avoid the streets.

The Hope and The Need

But there is a path forward. Mia just secured a new, promising job! This is a major victory, and she is thrilled to start this new chapter.

However, moving requires upfront costs that are currently impossible for her. Her new job will not provide her first paycheck soon enough to cover the required deposits (first and last month's rent) to secure a small, safe apartment. Every day she must remain in this abusive environment risks her mental and emotional well-being and jeopardizes the new job she just fought to get.

Your donation will go 100% to this transition.

We are looking for contributions to cover:

  • Security Deposit
  • First Month’s Rent
  • Last Month’s Rent (Often required for new tenants)
  • Utility Connection Fees (Water/Electric)

Because Mia is trapped in an environment with a volatile abuser, her safety is our absolute priority. This campaign must remain entirely anonymous to protect Mia and her daughter from retaliation.

Mia is already taking the steps to save herself by getting a job. We just need to help her cross the finish line to safety. If you are unable to donate, please text the link to this campaign to three trusted friends who might be able to help this mother and daughter finally breathe freely.

Thank you.
