Hi there, I'm the Tom part of Tom and Nicole.

We're trying to raise enough money to eventually get a large chunk of land in Ontario and set it up for Tiny Homes, mobiles and other similar things for non-predatory people who simply can't fit in normal society and currently end up wandering or homeless.

To start with though, we are in a bit of a serious time jam.

We had been converting a 1972 school bus into a Tiny Home, in order to be ready to move onto a country property next year. Unfortunately, the house we were renting was sold to a developer who wants us out by the end of Oct.

As we can't finish the bus in that time, we're looking for a cheap RV or trailer we can buy that either has a woodstove in it, or that we can put one in.

When I say cheap, I mean we're looking at ones that are in the 2 or 3k area... They are not pretty at that price range, but as long as we find one that is functional, it will be fine.

We have a spot arranged to park for the next year. I can't wait until we can share some pictures from there, because it will blow your mind. Right on a lake, nobody else around for miles, just the lake, trees and wildlife.

So, our first phase of the goal right now is to raise a couple of thousand dollars, or as much as we can, in as short of a period of time as possible.

It won't buy us a property, it won't buy us a home or even a 'nice' RV... Just something that we can survive the winter in, because as it is, with rent prices gone through the roof and property prices leaving the planet, we can't find any place we can afford to rent, let alone buy. Seriously, the only thing left in our price range for rent are rooms in shared homes of other people.

Assuming we do get enough to buy an RV and get it set up for winter (in two months!), although we do have some solar power (300 watts of PV panels) and a single agm deep cycle battery, we need more, a generator for backup and most importantly (after the survival aspect), a Starlink internet setup.

From then on, at least for an hour a day, we will have live video of a part of the property and lake we will be at. It could be longer, or in some cases we may have to record it and upload it late depending on how the system is working, but it will happen.

I expect to have many nature photographs and videos of me interacting with wildlife while there.

If, as I hope, being back in nature starts to calm my spirit a bit, I hope to be able to encourage everyone to help even more.

Right off the bat, as much as I expect to enjoy the property we will be staying on, it isn't permanent. Whether it's only a year or we get lucky and get to be able to use it longer, we will eventually need to find a different place.

What we will be looking for though, won't just be for us.

As mentioned at the start, we want to be able to help other people. People who are currently stomped through society's cracks; not because they are bad people and shunned, but because they were victims of those type and it broke them in ways most normal people can't even imagine.

To do that, we are going to look for a piece of land that is at least 160 acres in an unorganized township. I say at least, because if we raised enough and found a good enough deal on a place that would work, we'd buy thousands of acres and do the same, just for more people.

For now though, I'll talk as if we will get 160 acres that is basically flat and dry, covered in trees that has year round road access to the entrance.

160 acres is 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile if you don't know, or 2640 feet per side. We'll put a road/driveway in that splits in three after 50 feet with each fork running the length of the property. The outside ones will be about 440 feet from the sides and 880 feet away from each other.

That will provide six sections of land 440 feet wide by 2640, along side each road.

Those 6 sections will be divided into pieces 208 feet by 208 feet (one acre), starting 50 feet off the road/drive. Every second one (of the first 10) will be left 'natural' for the most part, leaving each 'lot' isolated among the tree, regardless of what other's do.

There will be no services provided other than road/drive maintenance. Each lots driveway will be the responsibility of the lot user.

In the beginning, we will be renting those spots out to people who have mobile Tiny Homes, RVs, vans, cars or even a tent they are living in, and just want the place in the country. We will insist that people show us evidence they won't freeze to death of course before we let them rent over winter.

Each spot will be $400.00 per month. If the person has no income because they can't prove an address, we will make allowances to let people catch up later once they are living there and have an address.

From that $400.00;

100 will be set aside and returned to the renter at the end of the first year so they have something with which to go and rejoin normal society, if that's what they want. It will give people a path from homelessness back into being a part of society. If we agree they can stay longer than a year, the money will still be returned once a year for the same purpose.

Another 100 will be set aside to go towards a building and start up fund for homeless people who have nothing to live in. As the fund grows to be enough to build and outfit a Tiny Home, assuming we still have more room, we will go find someone on the streets who fits with the rest of us and offer it to them, starting them on the same path as everyone else. The one difference is that if they want to stay longer than a year, they have to buy/build their own place so we can rotate another person in need in.

With 160 acres, we could provide a place for 30 'tiny homes', which would house from 30 to 60 (ish) people who need something different than anything society offers people in need.

The far end of the property, if you figured it out, would be a little empty compared to the rest.

Some of that will be our section where we will have a 'wild farm' that is humane while providing us with some of our needs.

The other part of it will be the final phase of it all and is based on us having a tiny, but steady income from having most of the lots rented out. It will have public buildings and landscaping features for everyone's use.

This will include having a cooperative style 'store' where we buy certain products in bulk and resell them for cost (total including overhead), refilling people's containers. Things like dish and laundry soap for example, that we know are biodegradable and non harmful to nature; up to and including various products from the people who live there, either in terms of crafts or farmer markets for surplus they have, etc.

I would love to simply say that we welcome all and the place would be open to anyone. However, we don't live in that world.

The people we want to help, have been broken by the actions and choices of others who seem to fit in and are welcomed in 'normal' society. They literally don't fit in so much that, for the most part, their best hope is taking shelter in an alley, under a bridge or in someone's backyard until they get kicked out, usually violently.

Their trust in other people has been so destroyed that they feel safer braving the elements on the streets than they ever would in a 'shelter', rooming house or even apartment complex. Their souls literally scream out that they just want to find a way to live in peace while they struggle with their scars.

Because of that, we won't welcome just anyone. We will be picky about it and we will ask people to leave if we make a mistake. We will not allow predatory type people to live there. I choose that word carefully. I didn't say 'angry', or 'violent' or 'anti-social'... Those things are to be expected from those who were first broken by others and then ignored, or worse, stomped on, by 'normal' people. Rapists, abusers, sexists, racists and the like, and their enablers, are not and will never be welcome, because they are the ones who created the need for places like this in the first place.
