A Place to HEAL!
What if the spaces that healed us could be built from the very earth beneath our feet?
Some people dream of building houses. I dream of building places that help people heal.
My name is Connie Dowding, and for years I have found myself drawn to the places where people and nature meet. Through my work as a boathouse attendant, skate park attendant, and assistant within a nature preserve, I have seen firsthand how powerful natural spaces can be. I've watched people find peace by the water, confidence through recreation, and a sense of belonging simply by spending time outdoors.
Those experiences planted a seed that has grown into a much larger vision.
My dream is to create a wellness retreat and community space that helps people reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world. A place where people can slow down, learn, heal, create, and remember that they are part of nature, not separate from it.
To bring that vision to life, I am pursuing an Advanced Cob Building Certification.
Most people have never heard of cob building. Cob is an ancient and sustainable building method that uses natural materials from the earth—primarily clay-rich soil, sand, water, and natural fibers—to create beautiful, durable structures. Unlike conventional construction, cob buildings are sculpted by hand, allowing for flowing organic forms that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
These structures are not only environmentally responsible; they also create spaces that feel grounded, calming, and deeply connected to nature. Imagine walking into a building that feels as though it grew from the earth itself—a place designed to nurture well-being rather than simply provide shelter.
My long-term vision is to use these skills to create a nature-centered retreat featuring earthen architecture, meditation spaces, wellness programs, food-growing systems, and opportunities for people to reconnect with the land. I envision a sanctuary where sustainable living, creativity, education, and healing can coexist in harmony.
The certification program that will begin this journey lasts 35 days and costs $2,800. Because the training is immersive and requires my full participation, I will be unable to work during that time. I am seeking support not only to cover the tuition but also to help offset the income I will lose while investing in this opportunity.
This is more than a training course for me. It is the foundation for a lifelong mission. Every lesson learned will bring me one step closer to creating spaces that inspire stewardship of the earth, strengthen communities, and provide a refuge for people seeking restoration in an increasingly disconnected world.
If this vision resonates with you, I would be deeply grateful for your support. Whether through a donation, a share, or words of encouragement, you are helping transform a dream into something tangible—something that has the potential to serve countless people for years to come.
Thank you for believing in the power of nature, sustainable living, and the possibility of building a better future from the ground up.
