A Van for Xan
A Van for Xan
Twenty-two years ago, my sister Alexandria, known to all of us as Xan, was full of life, energy, and joy. In an instant, that life was forever changed by an act of domestic violence. Xan survived, but she was left a quadriplegic. One man’s actions shattered multiple families, including ours. He has since been convicted. While justice has taken its course, the long road of healing continues for everyone involved.
Today, our family lives with the lasting impact of that tragedy. Through faith, forgiveness, and perseverance, we have learned to rebuild but one of our greatest challenges remains Xan’s isolation.
For more than five years, Xan has been without a reliable, wheelchair accessible van. Without transportation, she has missed countless family gatherings, celebrations, outings, and most painfully, church. Church is not just a place she can enjoy; it is a place of healing, connection, and spiritual strength. Unfortunately, public transportation is not a realistic solution. Scheduled rides can take hours, are often unreliable, and frequently fall outside her service area.
Xan’s world has slowly shrunk to the walls of her home.
This is why I am asking for help.
I know asking for $35,000 feels overwhelming. But I believe deeply that God works through community, and that together, what feels impossible can become possible. A wheelchair accessible van would give Xan something priceless: Freedom! The freedom to leave her home, reconnect with her family and friends, attend church, and participate in life again.
If you knew Xan, you would understand why this matters so much. She is gentle, compassionate, and endlessly giving spirit. Even in her own limitations, she would help anyone without hesitation, offering encouragement, kindness, and hope. She has always been someone who helps others “make a way out of no way.”
If her testimony moves your heart, even a small donation can make a difference. Every contribution brings us closer to restoring mobility, dignity, and connection to Xan’s life. Your generosity would mean more than words can express.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story, for your prayers, and for any support you are able to give.
With humility and gratitude,
Lauren
