Jill Howell
Aiyana's Dyslexia fund
Hi, My name is Angel Hussain. I am a wife and mother of three beautiful children. We live in Huntsville, AL. Our story began when I met my husband Darren in the Fiji Islands while my family lived there as missionaries from 1992 to 2003. When we moved back to the U.S. in 2003, I began pursuing my dream of opening a coffee shop with the help of my family. I decided to open the business in 2007 because I love to serve people. I wanted to do the community uniquely in Huntsville. My (now) husband, Darren, moved to the US shortly after. We got married in 2009. Our passion project has run successfully for 14 years and is still going strong. Upon coming to the US, Darren began working diligently to pursue achieving full citizenship and was granted it in 2016. He now works full-time at Rocket city chiropractor.
Having been homeschooled my entire youth, I always enjoyed interacting with people, playing sports, and doing anything other than reading books. I had no idea why I struggled so much with reading, writing, and simply feeling smart. I tried to compensate in every way. I wanted to mask, from everyone, the fact that I could not read or write. Dyslexia was not well known during those times, plus we lived in Fiji, and the resources simply were not understood or available. It was not until 2020 that I was diagnosed with dyslexia and began to understand why I struggled so much growing up. Despite my challenges and the support of people around me, I overcame these difficulties and pursued my dreams.
Seeing the same struggles with my daughter, we began to seek different types of therapy to understand exactly what was happening. She was officially diagnosed with dyslexia in 2020. Once we found out, I quickly knew she needed extra assistance to allow her to have maximum education and possibilities throughout her life. We wanted the absolute best for her so she could thrive, even more than I have over the years. Her intelligence, charisma, and joy could truly accomplish whatever she wants. My self-confidence would have been different if I had today's tools and schools. I want to fight for every opportunity for her to achieve, learn, and grow. We sent Aiyana to Greengate school last year with our previous fundraiser, and she improved tremendously!
Tuition tailored to our income bracket through Greengate School for Dyslexia at Randolph runs about $11,00 for this upcoming school year 22/23. The Greengate program goes until 8th grade, as do the fees. We intend on doing multiple forms of fundraising each year to ensure she gets the help she needs. Aiyana is very active in all of our fundraisers. We understand that it takes a village to raise a child. We are actively seeking assistance from you to help us ensure Aiyana has the most possibilities available to her. All donations received will go directly to Aiyana's education fund.
Thank you for your support and kindness.
Sincerely,
Angel, Darren, Aiyana, Tui, and Lagi Hussain
