Alika's Journey To The Jr Olym
Help Alika get to the Junior Olympics at Eastern Michigan University at the end of July.
This young lady is a 13 year old, soon to be freshman at Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas.
In her most recent 8th grade track season, she competed in 5 events;
Long Jump (broke the school record),
Triple Jump (broke the school record),
4x100 relay (broke the school record),
4x200 relay (broke the school record), and
100m dash (broke the school record and took 1st place at districts).
After the school season ended, her coach encouraged her to run for the AAU league (Amateur Athletics Union). They had already run the regular season and were at the qualifing races for regionals. Alika was not able to join a team or club because it was so late so she had to run unattached.
We went to the Qualifiers where only the top 16 move on. She placed 8th in the 100m dash.
We went to the Regionals where only the top 6 move on. She placed 6th in the 100m dash.
Next meet is THE JUNIOR OLYMPIC Games at Eastern Michigan University from July 29-August 5 where she will run the 100m dash.
This special young lady has said she was going to be an olympian since she could talk. She did not know a soul at these meets, was not attached to a team or club, did not have a coach (besides her dad), but went out there to compete with sheer will and love of the sport and succeeded.
She is on her way to do great things! Please help Alika accomplish the first of many steps to making her olympic dreams come true.
Any little bit helps. The money will go towards flight, hotel, healthy meals, uber to and from the hotel, entry fees, and a tshirt for her to wear with pride for BEING A JUNIOR OLYMPIAN!!
Get to know Alika: She maintains an A/B grade avg. She takes preAP classes. She started her own business (beautybyalika) at the age of 7, making and selling lipbalm and lotions. She donated 50% of her profits to the charity Project Night Night to help homeless children.
