Amy Jo BMT

 Hello friends and family,

this is Chloe writing; Amy is my best friend and it is easy to write about why she is so awesome.

If you know her, then you will know a lot of this. And if you don't, let me introduce you.

Amy is the girl who is confident in who she is, not because she is "all that", but because she is secure in Christ and in who God has made her to be and is transforming her into. She is selfless like no one I know-she will always think of others first and herself last. She is eager to help and will drop personal endeavors and plans to be there for people. She serves with all her heart at church, with her friends, and even in her career. Amy is the kind of friend that is hard to find, but will stick it out for a lifetime and she loves Jesus with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Amy needs our help. About two and a half years ago she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), which is a precursor to Acute Leukemia if untreated. The treatment is a bone marrow transplant (BMT). In mid-May she met with the BMT team for a full day of testing and information gathering as they walked her through the next steps and what the transplant would look like. This included taking low dose chemo pills over the next three months in hopes to get the blasts (bad cells) down to a number that would raise the effectiveness of the transplant with an expectation of many doctors appointments during those three months. She has gone through her first round of the pills and is in the down time before the next round starts. She will complete her final round in August and then head back to MUSC for another biopsy and to set a date for when the transplant will take place, likely sometime in September.

For the transplant, Amy will be in Charleston for 100-150 days. She will start in the hospital for about 30 days for intense chemo and then the transplant and monitoring. Her and her parents will be required to temporarily move to Charleston during this time and be close to the hospital. Though Amy has health insurance, there are many things that go into a procedure like this that aren't covered by insurance. Some of those things include, but are not limited to: out of pocket costs, medications, transportation, lodging, and fertility.

If you know Amy, you might know that it is usually difficult for her to ask for help of any kind. As her friends and family, we are asking for your help to meet her goal. We want to give Amy the gift of leaving this time behind her debt free when it's all over. No amount is too small.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contribution and prayers.
