Fanny's Medical Fund
My name is Fanny R. Villegas, I am 63 years old and live in Charlotte, NC.
I am resorting to this crowdfunding campaign to get urgent help since I suffered a sudden spill in the Vitreo (inner part of the eye) of my right eye (and my left eye does not have good vision) for which I had an emergency surgery in Charlotte (vitrectomy) which resulted in even more serious consequences. Within a week I started losing vision in my eye again and I was referred to an oncologist at Duke Hospital in Durham where a 90% retina detachment was discovered and for which I was also operated on as an emergency. During the surgery, a hole was discovered in my retina and a additional surgery is required to remove an oil bubble placed in my eye to repair the hole in the retina, which currently shows as a huge black spot in my visual field preventing me from seeing. In total, 3 or 4, possibly more, surgeries will be needed.
Due to this condition I have not been able to keep up with my job which has resulted in monetary loss. Since I still have not recovered vision in my eye, I do not know when I'll be able to pick up my normal work routine affecting also my ability to cover expenses for additional health issues like fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. I don't have health insurance and don't qualify for any assistance from other entities. I will have to cover the medical costs of the surgeries and all additional expenses I generate such as: hospital stays and follow up visits, traveling expenses to Durham, medications, other medical professionals for example, oncologist, anesthesiologists, laboratories and postoperative care, etc. The hospitals can give me a minimum discount that helps very little to cover the high costs. Unfortunately, I do not have the means to cover them either. I am very grateful for the help you can give me to face this difficult situation that I am going through.

Mi nombre es Fanny R. Villegas, tengo 63 años y vivo en Charlotte, NC.
Estoy recurriendo a esta campaña de crowdfunding para obtener ayuda urgente ya que sufrí un repentino derrame en el Vitreo ( parte interna del ojo) de mi ojo derecho ( y mi ojo izquierdo no tiene buena visión) por el que fui intervenida quirúrgicamente “de urgencia” (vitrectomía) que resultó en mas graves consecuencias. Una semana después empece a perder vision otra vez y fui derivada a un Hospital ONCOLOGICO donde descubrieron desprendimiento de retina en un 90% por el cual también fui intervenida de urgencia. Durante la cirugía también descubrieron un agujero en mi retina y se requiere una cirugía mas para remover una burbuja de aceite que fue puesta en mi ojo. Creemos que el agujero ciego apareció al tomar una muestra de tumor durante la primer cirugía y esta en el medio de mi campo visual impidiéndome ver. En total necesitare 3 o 4 cirugías, posiblemente mas.
Debido a esta condición no puedo trabajar desde junio por mi cuenta. Tampoco se cuando podré hacerlo y se están viendo afectados también todas mis responsabilidades y los tratamientos que debo hacer por mi fibromialgia y osteoartritis.
Actualmente no tengo seguro médico y no soy elegible para cualquier otra ayuda de otras entidades. Tendré que cubrir los costos médicos de las cirugías y todos los anexos que genere por mi misma. Gastos incluyen: estadías en el hospital, medicamentos, otros profesionales médicos por ejemplo, Oncólogo, anestesiólogos, Laboratorios y atención postoperatoria. Un hospital puede darme un descuento mínimo que ayuda muy poco a cubrir los elevados costos. Desafortunadamente, yo no tengo los medios para cubrirlos tampoco. Estoy muy muy agradecida por la ayuda que puedan brindarme para hacerle frente a esta difícil situación por la que estoy pasando.
