Baby Benjamin Thomson

Benjamin Gatsby Thomson was born via emergency c-section on Monday evening, November 18, 2019. He weighed 4lbs 10oz. I was 1 day short of 39 weeks. I went in to the doctor that day with some abdominal pain, only to find out out that I wouldn't be leaving, that I was experiencing preeclampsia that would later develop into HELP syndrome, and that our baby boy would be delivered that night. After platelet, plasma and blood transfusions I was able to get an emergency c-section and when our beautiful boy was born he coded. He was transported to Kaiser San Francisco where he would have a breathing tube and a chest tube to help with the infection the swallowed meconium was causing him. We were told to expect possible brain damage. The doctor started using the term cerebral palsy, and said we would know more in the next few hours. Friends and family started to pray. As my husband and new baby, who I had yet to meet were transported to SF, I stayed in the ICU here in Santa Rosa. Never did we imagine the story like this. As of last night I am out of the ICU. Our newest baby boy, baby Benny is breathing on his own, no more chest tubes, and is currently working on feeding and putting on some weight before he is discharged and ready to meet his new big brothers. We are deeply thankful for all the support and love that has been shown to us. The emergency of the situation has caused a much longer recovery time. We appreciate anything given to help us through this.
