Barnes Family
Jacob and Brittany Barnes of Chester, Tx went in for the last OB appointment on Tuesday May 23rd before the anticipated arrival of their fourth child, Boston Barnes.
During their appointment the feelings of anticipation and excitement quickly turned to fear and uncertainty as they detected a decrease in fetal movement and low heart tones that resulted in an immediate emergency c-section at Woodland Heights in Lufkin.
Boston had a nuchal cord, a true knot in his umbilical cord, low amniotic fluid all while mother and baby were facing a uterine rupture. Any of which could have taken Boston and Brittany in an instant, but as the fighter he had proven to be in such a short, short amount of time he was born weighing 5lbs 13ounces, and 18 inches long.
Boston was immediately transferred to Women's Hospital of Texas in Houston while Brittany had to remain there as she faced a number of complications and had so many uncertain answers for not only her life but her newborn son's. In this moment you have such a feeling of helplessness as a parent and the only thing you can do is pray and keep your faith strong. Brittany was admitted into the same hospital as Boston a short while later still facing recovery from her uterine rupture amongst other complications.
After arriving to Houston and further examination, the doctors put Boston on a 72-hour head cooling treatment to enhance the healing of his brain and body from the extreme lack of oxygen and blood flow. The rewarming process takes 6 hours and his brain is constantly monitored for any seizures during that time. An MRI is to follow on Tuesday, May 30th to watch for any signs of brain damage, swelling or seizures.
Jacob and Brittany are facing many challenges during this uncertain time along with their three older children at home confused and scared for their little brother, missing their parents, and their world being turned upside down in the blink of an eye. This family comes from a very small town that has the biggest love and support system I have ever seen in a community. With prayers and faith, they have all come together to lift them in every way possible. Jacob is the sole financial provider as Brittany raises their wild bunch. Any donations that are able to be given will help this family stay close to Boston while he is being treated, as well as help with their day to day needs for their family. We all understand the challenges we face after taking a few sick days, but with all of our help we can give them a sense of relief as Jacob will have to take time off of work to help with the healing of his wife, newborn son, all while trying to fill Brittany's big shoes of tending to their 3 older children.
If you feel it in your heart to donate you can do it here, but most importantly keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
