Hey y'all,

As some of you may or may not know my mom, Wanda Givens, was diagnosed with Her2 metastatic Breast Cancer this past 2022. We discovered then that it is the most aggressive form of breast cancer one can have and that it had already spread to a lymph node close by. We also discovered there wasn't just one but 2 tumors in her breast. Her oncologist has her on a very hefty regiment of 2 very strong chemo drugs and 2 monoclonal antibodies every 3 weeks. She had her first treatment almost a week ago today and is feeling very sick and weak already with muscle spasms, stomach pains, and overall aches. Her oncologist told me this will not be easy and she will lose all her hair. He also has it in her plan to get a double mastectomy along with radiation towards the end if needed-we are hoping the chemo will shrink each tumor down enough to avoid radiation. I want to note that my mother has a few health issues that already existed before her cancer diagnosis such as; gastroporisis of the digestive tract, a colostomy bag, and MS that affects her nerves. She is currently living in low income housing and gets a small disability check monthly that is just barely enough to get by for one single person and as you can imagine just not enough to fulfill all the extra expenses she has just recently taken on with cancer treatment.

As you can imagine this is difficult for her and the whole family. To make matters worse; my husband and I along with our kids live 5 hours south of her in Georgia. She is located in Johnson City, Tennessee. We try to travel up there periodically but have work and obligations to our kids that makes it very difficult to travel often. My mom needs a live in nurse to help assist her in this very difficult time. She will also need assistance with the extra medical costs and help with getting food delivered. I'd also like to be able to periodically fly by plane for short trips to help insure she is getting the care and help she so desperately needs right now in this current chapter of her life. I know she can beat this!

If you don't know me; my name is Sarah Ward. I am 1 of 4 of my mothers children. I am one of my moms main caregivers from long distance and often make phone calls, help get her prescriptions organized, and visit to help her complete basic everyday tasks such as cleaning ,grocery shopping, paperwork, and keeping up with finances.

I'd like to personally ask our friends and family for some help during this difficult time. I will be managing any and all funds raised and helping my mom be as comfortable as possible while she continues to take on the greatest battle for her life. *I'm tearing up as I type this on my phone.* 😭 Us, her grandkids, and family love her so much and we cannot wait to celebrate when she gets to ring that bell at the end of her treatment.
