“Yesterday was a day I was not expecting.

On Monday evening, I noticed some leakage of fluid.

Early Tuesday morning, I was making the drive to Methodist Women's Hospital to see my perinatologist, Dr. Bonebrake. It was the most surreal drive-complete deja vu. I felt as though I was reliving Charley's pregnancy all over again. The anxiety of it all overwhelmed me.

Dr. Bonebrake, through both ultrasound and diagnostic testing, confirmed our worst nightmare. I was, in fact, leaking amniotic fluid.

I was immediately admitted to be watched for the last 24 hours to rule out any signs of infection or impending labor/contractions. I have been given IV antibiotics during this time, as well.

The situation we are currently in, at 20 weeks and 2 days gestation and the leaking of amniotic fluid, is not even close to ideal. This is a situation we had hoped we would not be in, after what we experienced last year, with the loss of our beautiful Charley girl. The viability of a baby between 20 and 24 weeks is not realistic, so we will continue to pray and ask for prayers and help in ways in which we need it.

But, if we can make it to 24 weeks, I will be readmitted to the hospital and given steroids for baby lungs, as well as antibiotics to prevent infection. I will stay in the hospital in-patient, as long as I can, with a goal of 32 weeks to deliver baby.

The next 3.5-4 weeks are critical. This is beyond scary for Rodney and I, and we have no reasons as to why this has happened. I have been told that it is nothing that I could have done or not done to avoid this happening. So, please, from the depths of our hearts, pray with us. Pray for us and this beautiful baby we have created and so badly want to meet. ❤️“
