BERLINER MEDICAL FUND
My name is Steven Berliner. I am 61 years old and I've had chronic heart disease for nearly 20 years. I have an implanted cardiac device (pacemaker defibrillator ). I traveled to Pennsylvania from Albany New York in mid February to celebrate my dad's 84th birthday and my Mom and Dad's 63rd anniversary. On February 11th at the end of the evening, I suffered a ventricular tachycardia storm and received 12 shocks from my device.I was taken to geisinger medical center in Danville, Pennsylvania and stabilized and received a right coronary artery stent due to blockage. After 4 days in geisinger medical center my daughter and son-in-law came to Pennsylvania and took us home to Albany New York. I was only home for 2 days and experienced 4 more shocks due to ventricular tachycardia.I was sent to St Peter's hospital in Albany New York and my doctor determined that I would need an ventricular catheter ablation in Boston. This procedure reroutes the electrical firings of the heart in order to stop the deadly arrhythmias and the defibrillator from going off. This procedure was performed at Brigham and women's hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. It was successful.I now find myself in a financial situation due to insurance which I pay for,not wanting to pay out of network charges. I have out of network coverage and the surgery was deemed medically necessary and life saving. Surgery could not be performed locally in my area and Mount Sinai was unable to take me. I think it is a travesty that an insurance company would put money over a human life.I started this fund with hopes that the kindness of others will help my wife and I pay for these expensive and unexpected bills.Nothing is expected but greatly appreciated.Thank you for your consideration and will you please pass this on, I have never had a social media account.
Thanks 🙏,
Steven
