Binx's Surgery

A few weeks ago, some coworkers found the most pitiful little black kitten outside of work. His eye was crusted shut, his face was covered in snot, and fleas were everywhere. Their first thought was to call me out to see him - apparently, I’m the resident “cat whisperer.” When I picked him up, he melted right into me like he’d been waiting for someone to help.

I wasn’t planning on adopting another cat - I already have three - but the moment he curled up against me, I knew he’d stolen my heart.

Since then, Binx has been through a lot. He’s battled worms, fleas, conjunctivitis, and a severe respiratory infection that developed into pneumonia. Worst of all, we recently learned he has a diaphragmatic hernia and his liver is growing into the space where his right lung should be.

The worms, fleas, and eye issues were easy enough to handle, but his heavy breathing and coughing just wouldn’t go away. On his third vet visit, x-rays revealed the hernia.

Right now, he’s on famciclovir and Veraflox for the pneumonia. His breathing has started to improve, though sometimes he still sounds congested. The hernia, unfortunately, can only be corrected with surgery. We’re still making phone calls to find a surgeon equipped for such a delicate procedure, so I don’t have an official quote yet - but asking around online, I got an estimate of around $10,000, and my heart sank reading that number.

Despite everything, Binx remains the sweetest, most affectionate little guy. When you pick him up, he snuggles his face against yours (even if he’s a bit snotty sometimes - it’s hard to turn down that kind of love). He just wants to be close to people and soak up every ounce of affection he can get.

I want to give Binx every possible chance at a happy, healthy life. Once I receive a quote from a qualified vet, I’ll update with more details about the cost and location.

If you’re able to help, any donation - no matter the size - would make a huge difference in getting Binx the surgery he needs to survive. Every contribution goes toward his medical bills and gives him a real shot at a long, loving life. Even sharing his story helps more than you know.

Thank you so much for reading Binx’s story and caring about this little fighter. <3
