Birthday fundraiser!
It's birthday season in our house and we need your help celebrating! My birthday is this month and Colin's is next month. May 12 is also ME/CFS Awareness Day. ME/CFS is the disease that disables me and keeps me housebound and dependent on Colin to help me through my days. Neither Colin or I are able to work for a living anymore, and government disability benefits aren't even enough to live on, certainly not enough to allow for saving.
We have opened a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), the disability version of an RRSP. We need your help to deposit at least $4,500 this year so that we are then eligible for the full government contribution.
This type of account is basically functioning as a pension that will be slowly paid out to us after we turn 65. It's definitely not a way for us to build equity or anything like that, simply a tool for us to build a tiny bit more security for our old age.
This might seem like an odd birthday request, but goals and celebrations change massively when one is faced with life altering illness and injury. I can assure you, your contributions to this fundraiser will be cause for much celebration in our house! Helping us survive a little better for a little longer is the best gift you can give.
If we don't reach our goal now, we'll do this again in December. And if by some amazing miracle we exceed our goal, we'll use the excess to buy some sort of birthday treat we wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.
Huge gratitude for your support, and even if you can't help monetarily, we would love to hear from you! Messages welcome. And please share this fundraiser with anyone you think might be interested in participating!
