45 Years of Unbreakable Love: Honoring Katherine King & Lifting Wayne
Wayne and Katherine King’s love story began in 8th grade, blossoming into over 45 years of marriage, three devoted sons, seven cherished grandchildren, and countless shared memories that wove their lives together inseparably. Now, Wayne faces the unimaginable pain of carrying on without her.
Just six months ago, Wayne and Katherine sought medical care for what they thought was a routine concern. Instead, tests uncovered fluid around her heart containing cancerous cells. Days later, she received a devastating Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer diagnosis—the aggressive disease had already spread to her brain and stomach.
Katherine battled with fierce courage and determination. She endured immediate chemotherapy and immunotherapy, followed by full-brain radiation. The family traveled for a second opinion in Boston, clinging to hope for new treatments, but doctors insisted she first regain strength—a heartbreaking goal she never reached.
On Friday the 13th, just hours after returning home and settling into her hospice bed for comfort, Katherine passed peacefully at 63, surrounded by love.
This loss cuts even deeper for the family. Only two years earlier, their 18-year-old grandson and nephew, Wyatt King, lost his brave fight against brain cancer. Katherine’s passing has torn open that raw wound, leaving an aching void for Wayne, their sons, grandchildren, and all who knew her warm spirit.
Through Katherine’s illness, Wayne shouldered crushing travel and medical expenses. For months, he maxed out credit cards to keep the family afloat while devoting himself fully to her care. Now, final arrangements and mounting debt threaten to overwhelm him amid profound grief.
Wayne, humble to a fault, would never seek help himself—that’s why his loved ones are stepping forward. Your support can lift this financial weight, freeing him to grieve, heal, and honor the extraordinary woman who was his partner for nearly a lifetime.
Every act of kindness—a gift, a prayer, or sharing this story—lifts our family’s spirits. We wish you health, love, and peace, and thank you from the depths of our hearts for holding Wayne close in your thoughts.
