Brain Surgery: Take Two!
Three months after my first first brain surgery in 2020 to address the arachnoid cyst at the base of my brain, the doctors found a new development, a tumor. They said it was a Cavernous Malformation, and that it wouldn't grow or cause any problems.
Now, in 2025, we have very different news. It has grown 10 times in size, is causing partial seizures, and proprioception issues on my left side. The specialists also aren't actually positive that it's a Cavernous malformation, and can't be until they remove it. Thankfully, because it has calcium deposits, it's almost definitely not cancerous! But still, Chanterelle (as I've decided to name her), has got to go! Without the surgery, and the longer we wait to do it, the more the tumor will grow, the worse my symptoms will get and spread, and the more likely they will become permanent, possibly causing paralysis in my left side, if left alone.
So I am having brain surgery for the SECOND time on March 31st, just four weeks away. This gives us time to get the logistical things done with my doctors, Chevy's work, and in our personal lives.
This surgery will be very different than the last. This is a tumor being removed from my brain, rather than a cyst just needing drained. It is in my parietal lobe, an extremely sensitive area of the brain. Especially now that we have our miracle boy, it's much more intimidating this time around. But we serve a big God, and He is capable of so much!
We strongly dislike asking for help, but right now we need it. We need your prayers and love and support, and if you are at all able, your monetary donations. Our goal isn't too horribly big, but is definitely needed. We have several trips to and from my neurosurgeon over the next couple of months (two hours away, then two hours back), my family will need lodging and food the week I'm in the hospital, and we will need other various things throughout this process. Honestly, it's very uncomfortable to have a need we can't meet on our own. But it's also a beautiful blessing to see the love we are held in.
No matter how much or how little you have to spare, it all is huge to us! If you aren't able to donate, please share our fundraiser! We have a very short timeframe for fundraising, and have to continue doing life in that time, while preparing for this major ordeal. Every share helps!! I hope y'all know how grateful we are for our community and village! -Catie Hogue Millard
