Friend, if you’ve stayed connected to Brent over the last few years, you know that his life has been impacted by a rare condition called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (brought on by late-stage Lyme Disease, mold illness, & something called CIRS). This chronic illness brings a host of debilitating neurological symptoms for Brent and can be intensified by increased exposure to environmental triggers. David and I have known Brent for more than 25 years, and we have never seen him as sick and beat down as he is right now. This current crisis has made it nearly impossible for Brent to maintain his business and find a healthy living environment. Over the years, Brent has dedicated countless hours researching and seeking interventions to address his condition both environmentally and medically. He has invested tens of thousands of dollars of his own money, and like many with chronic illnesses, he has run out of resources.

We are advocating for Brent because for him to recover his health, he will need unique professional medical intervention designed to address his particular condition. Up to this point, he has not been able to access the best medical care for his illness because it is so expensive and requires considerable time off from work. And, as you might expect, the medical providers and treatments are not covered by insurance.

 As we have talked with Brent, we are concerned that Brent needs to act in short order, as he has truly come to the end of his capacity. So we resolved to create a giving campaign and invite his friends and acquaintances to contribute toward his healing. Brent’s advisors say that this road will require considerable resources to make progress ($60-$80K ballpark). He will use insurance where he can along the way but will also need additional resources if he is going to make real progress.

Brent is currently on the list to see a Lyme/mold specialist, Dr. Brett Satkamp (an MD) at New Horizons Integrative in Zionsville. Dr. Satkamp has had Lyme and mold illness himself, and Brent believes he is the best choice locally. Brent is also seeking to become a patient of Dr. William Vickers in Annapolis, Maryland. Dr. Vicker’s clinic offers intensive, in-person treatment. Some local friends have a son who was bedridden for 8 years with Brent’s same condition, and Dr. Vickers was the only doc who was able to help him.
