Creating a Safe Space
This has been an insane year, and we're only in April. A few weeks ago, the owner of the home I'm renting let me know that she needs to sell the house at the end of my lease (June 30, 2021); however, she would like to sell me the home. I had not anticipated moving in a little over 2 months, nor had I anticipated buying a home. All of this is a bit overwhelming and stressful, but I know that God is faithful.
Jerry and I want to be people who are safe, and we want to create a home that is a safe place for others. Even though I have only been renting this space up until now, I have tried to be intentional about using this space to help others. I have been able to provide lodging for people who needed it; encouraged people to start new business ventures; taught couples their wedding dances; hosted parties that were inclusive and intentionally made to be safe spaces for the people in my life.
I grew up knowing what it meant to not have a safe space or safe people in your life. I know what it means to be rejected or abandoned by people who should love and care for you, and Jerry and I want to create a home that offers to others what I didn't have. We want people to know they can come here and rest, or seek advice, or renew their spirits, or just take a break for a moment. Owning this home would mean an opportunity to care for our community well and continue providing a safe place for people to stay and feel loved, no matter how long they are here.
We know times have been difficult for LOTS of people over the last year and a half but if you have already been blessed by this safe environment or if you support our vision of a safe space, we are asking you to dig deep and give what you can. Any amount is a blessing and greatly appreciated.
