Hello, my name is Candace. I am reaching out for help because I have hit an incredibly difficult chapter in my life and have run out of options.

I am living with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), which is a severe autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the bile ducts in the liver. By the time I was officially diagnosed, the disease had already progressed to Stage 4 fibrosis. Because of this, my liver is failing, and I am very close to needing a liver transplant.

Over the last couple of months, my health has significantly worsened. The immense stress of my current situation has taken a devastating physical toll on me—it has caused my symptoms to flare up aggressively, leaving me with unbelievably bad, intense, and painful skin rashes and itching.

Adding to this health crisis, I was recently in a car accident. My car is my absolute livelihood because I rely on it to earn a living through gig driving. Unfortunately, the insurance company has handled the situation poorly; they only covered surface-level, cosmetic fixes but completely failed to address the actual structural and mechanical problems under the hood. As a result, my car is unsafe and completely out of commission while the situation is under investigation.

Without a working car, I am completely trapped. I have lost my entire source of income and cannot make money to buy basic food for myself and my household. Crucially, I am also left stranded with no way to get to my critical hospital appointments to manage my liver failure.

I live on a fixed disability income that does not arrive until the second of the month, and right now, I am completely out of funds with only $15 left to my name. I am falling behind and facing immediate housing insecurity with rent.
