Caring for Carissa
Many of you know this, but for those who don't, our sister was recently diagnosed with a form of sarcoma with a genetic mutation associated with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome. Li-Fraumeni Syndrome makes treating cancer with the traditional protocol difficult. With the TP53 gene mutation, the tumor suppressor in her body does not function normally causing the risk of tumors becoming resistant to traditional chemotherapy.
If you know our sister, she is the most caring and giving person. Always pouring into everyone but herself. She would never ask anyone for anything, but during this season, we are asking her friends and family for prayers and any donation that can help her.
This came as a heartbreaking shock to our family, especially after losing her dad to cancer at the young age of eleven.
Carissa had surgery in late December 2021 to remove a large abdominal tumor and has undergone many tests and appointments since that time. She recently started her second round of weeklong chemotherapy in the hospital.
Carissa is seeking complementary care through a naturopathic oncology clinic in the area to support her overall health during and after chemotherapy. This clinic offers unique therapies to treat cells resistant to traditional chemotherapy alone. These therapies are not covered under health insurance.
It's been hard to see our younger sister have to endure this cross, but we also see that God is working through her in this experience. Anything you can do to help her on this journey will be met with deep gratitude.
With Great Love,
Saad, Dan, Justin, John, and Joe
