A Case for Case Goods
MY STORY
A few years ago when I was looking for a new job, I called a mentor of mine seeking guidance. I expressed dissatisfaction with where I was professionally and the lack of fulfillment within my career. Working as a product designer for a large home furnishings company, I spent a lot of time surrounded by vintage furniture, lighting, and objects that were often being gleaned for cheap dilutions or downright knock-offs. I felt that my energy and creativity were not being used to create new ideas or thoughtful designs, but exploited to pump the wallets of a small group of executives. The mentor very plainly asked me what I wanted to do and without much hesitation, I told them I wanted to work with antiques.
As quickly as I had given my answer, the mentor gave me a curt too bad, go fish, that's never going to happen because it's an elite industry with very few opportunities unless you marry into it or have a lot of money. Next!
Assuming we have met before, reader, you can probably imagine I took this advice very politely and without protest. (If we have not met, know that I did not.)
MY DREAM
It took a few years to build up the gumption, but here we are! My name is Case Pollock and I am asking you to support my business, Case Goods. Functioning as a source for vintage furniture, lighting, and objects, Case Goods provides an opportunity to share my perspective with my community and explore the intricacies of design and myself. Connecting emotion and design through materials, form, and history, the objects we surround ourselves with create a story of who we are, who we were, and who we hope to be.
There is an unlock of self when someone brings something new and tangible into their life and through Case Goods, I have found a deep joy in helping people furnish rooms, cherish their belongings, and see themselves in a more complete sense.
MY ASK
After finding my footing selling vintage online and hosting pop-up sales, I will be renting my first permanent vintage booth inside of Stuff by Luxe (a reincarnation of the Bay Area's most popular vintage collective, Stuff) at their new 20,000 square foot Mission District location opening in September.
Your donation will allow me to build a successful business that I will cultivate and grow with the intent to establish my own brick-and-mortar space within 2-4 years where I can present my perspective on a larger scale. The funds will go towards any and all business related expenses, but will especially help with the following:
- Business Start-Up & Registration Fees
- Inventory (AKA "The Goods")
- Rent (Vintage Booth, Storage Unit)
- Advertising & Marketing Expenses
- Transportation Costs (chairs don't pick up themselves)
Whether monetarily or emotionally, your support means mountains to me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
