Dear Supporter:

 My name is Tonya Chestnut. I am a candidate for District 5 State Board of Education.  I am a product of District 5,  and have had the honor of serving on various educational levels in this district during my 36 years of service as a proud Alabama educator. I have walked the halls of our schools throughout District 5. I see in real-time the challenges we face and understand what it will take to meet the needs of the total child and to help students compete worldwide.

 As I reflect on my 36 years of experience, I remain passionate about educating children. Our future depends on how well we work with all members of the “village” (i.e. parents, businesses, educators, industry leaders, etc.) in designing and implementing programs of excellence for all children entrusted in our care. I wish to dedicate my time and experience as a retired educator to join other citizens in the State of Alabama to help Alabama's children succeed as we set footprints of excellence in the sand of time!

 To succeed in this effort, I need to mount an aggressive fundraising campaign. With brochures, flyers, yard signs, fifteen counties advertising to place, and district 5 to canvass, I cannot do this alone. I'm inviting people that support me to join my “36 for 36 Campaign' and to help make a real difference — thirty-six dollars for thirty-six years of experience.
