Chinatown International District Community Watch started June of 2020 to protect and support our community. We are a community based solution and walk the streets of Little Saigon, Japantown and Chinatown 3-7 nights a week. We check in on businesses and residents and through heatwave, cold spell, unhealthy air quality, asian hate incidences, covid, and protests, we walked.

We're getting ready for record temperatures this weekend which means that our most vulnerable Chinatown International District community members will need extra care! Most of our elders do not have air conditioning and will try to cool off in the park. Our unhoused population will need extra care as well.

We went out 6/24 Friday night and handed out over 100 water bottles to seniors and to the unhoused and we did not have enough! We also were asked for food. It takes about $50 a night for us to make about 40 sandwiches and to provide a bag of chips with it. We give out about 40 sandwitches a night and still that does not meet the need. We will be going out every night this next week and would need additional funding to buy water and make meals for 100 people if we can. We're hoping for an extra cart to transport all the supplies throughout the community.

Once we get over the heatwave I am hoping that we will be able to use any additional money to buy supplies. Supplies that would immediately be used in the community. Meals and mutual aid kits for the unhoused, water for the unhoused and elderly, vests, t-shirts and flashlights for volunteers, medical equipment and training for volunteers, whistles for the elderly, administrative fees such as for the website and mailbox.
