Colombian Lindy Hoppers
The Colombian Lindy Hop scene needs your support to send 8 of our dancers to the Mexican International Lindy Hop festival, Swing Break Mexico!
We need your help! We have decided to create a crowdfunding campaign to raise the necessary funds to afford the journey. Swing Break Mexico is already supporting us by giving us a 20% discount to the festival.
Our story:
Two girls from different latitudes, without knowing each other and having some basic knowledge of lindy hop, were working hard to create a swing scene in the cities they just moved in (Bogotá y Medellín) to be able to keep dancing.
In December 2016 these two movements merged and both communities danced the Shim Sham together for the first time in Medellín. From that day they left behind the solitary efforts to give birth to Lindy Hop Colombia...
In one year we lived many lindy hop-adventures and we have grown into a community with 8 instructors, we have taught the basic lindy hop moves and concepts to more than 100 people and we have organized events to strengthen the scene.
In April 2017 we were already organizing our first international workshop. We were able to have guest instructors Tim Collins and Ruchi Avilés thanks to the Frankie Manning Foundation and Swing Mexico's support.
Excited to continue learning and giving our students well-rounded knowledge, we couldn't wait longer, so in October we organized the second workshop with Paola Avilés and Eduardo Mercado from Swing Mexico as well.
Today we have the opportunity to go to the Swing Break 2018 and learn from great dancers as Kevin, Jo, Agus, Maxi, Tim, Ruchi, Lalo and Pao. That is why we want to do what we can to take the workshops and improve our skills as dancers in order to continue teaching in Colombia in the best way we can.
We know that despite the difficulties that an emerging scene implies, we have a genuine community and that we are part of something bigger, a community that goes beyond this country and even the continent.
