Marnie Rogers
Corey Medical Emergency
On Wednesday, 10/18 Corey's blood pressure dropped way too low, they were able to get it stable but he was advised to go to the ER as a precaution. Once there they did a CT scan and followed up with an MRI to verify what they saw. He had a tumor on the back of his brain. Awful news for anyone but his family has a very rare, genetic syndrome called VHL. Corey's sister has VHL in the form of cancerous tumors on her kidney and their Father had VHL in the form of cancerous brain tumors which sadly claimed his life when Corey was about 7 years old. So the news of a tumor on his brain was especially unnerving.
Friday, 10/20 Corey underwent a craniotomy to attempt to remove the tumor. They were successful in removing it, sent it off to Pathology, and let us know the preliminary results showed that it was benign, a huge relief for all of us. As of right now, Sunday, 10/22 at about 9:30 pm Corey is still in ICU and will not be able to go to a regular room until the drain on the right side of his head is done and removed. This will be an amazing time because our 12 and 13 year olds aren't old enough to go into ICU so they haven't seen their Dad since before the surgery, they are so upset and miss him so much.
Once released from the hospital he will require physical therapy and won't be able to return to work for some time (and the company he works for doesn't have short term or long term disability) so as the breadwinner of the family it will be extremely difficult to survive, much less handle the medical bills.
If you find it in your heart, please donate, the most important thing in our lives is our family and we just want to care for them the best we can.
Thank you and God bless!!
