On my recent September trip, a few extremely motivated rodents demonstrated that my rentable acrylic carriers are, in fact, a suggestion. Several animals chewed their way out—something I genuinely didn’t think was possible!

Unfortunately, the situation escalated when chewed wiring caused my van to break down in the midst of travel, resulting in over $1,000 in repairs. Turns out rodents + vehicle wiring is not a winning combination.

To completely eliminate the possibility of this ever happening again, I’m switching to laboratory-grade transport bins only, and their use will now be mandatory for all transports. These bins are designed specifically to be chew-proof, escape-proof, and far safer for the animals, the transport process, and my weary transport vehicle.

I am started a fundraiser to help offset these unexpected costs. To be fully transparent, the fundraiser goal does not even cover the total amount spent on repairs and new equipment—it’s simply an attempt to recuperate some of the financial hit in a reasonable way while still moving forward with these safety upgrades.
