Dan was diagnosed with brain cancer a week after he turned 21 on April 14, 2016. It is called a Glioma (anaplastic astrocytoma - grade 3) and removing it would most definitely harm him permanently. He did not want to chance it. Dan was placed on Keppra and Vimpat (anti-seizure medications) which make him drowsy but will hopefully ward off the seizures.

Dan has had two 6-month treatments of Temodar (oral chemo.) There is now an additional mass and the MRIs from the past few years when compared to the MRIs from 2016 show continual progression (growth.) Dan had all of the radiation that was recommended so back in 2020 when we looked into cyber knife, it was suggested that no more radiation no matter what type should be used. This could change in the future.

Starting January 16 of 2023 he was subscribed Tibsovo (Ivosidenib) which was supposed to cross the blood brain barrier and start to shrink the tumors. That has not yet happened. He was prescribed another year of the Tibsovo so we are hoping for a year of shrinkage but now there is a new issue. Earlier this week, January 9th, he had what appeared to be a stroke due to difficulty speaking and drooping of the mouth. The scheduled MRI that was done on Thursday, January 11, confirmed this. Now we are dealing with testing to figure out the cause of the stroke, scans to look for issues related to the heart, upcoming appointments with radiation oncologists to decide if radiation and/or chemo should be brought back into the protocol along with other possible drugs.
