Deaf Culture in Germany!

Hey, everybody! As most of you know, I am finishing up my American Sign Language Interpreting major this semester at TCC. Graduating this December will be a huge moment for me because I absolutely love what I am going to school for. ASL ( American Sign Language) and Deaf Culture are two things that I am very passionate about- which brings me to the point of this fundraiser: every year in May TCC has a “Deaf Trip”. Anyone who is in the ASL program or who is Deaf can go on these trips. This year, the trip will be in Germany. The rule is that once you get on the plane to Germany you are only allowed to speak in ASL, and you cannot use English until you get back to the United States!

The point of the trip is to become more cultured, and to see what being Deaf is like in another country. We will meet people from Germany's deaf communities, learn a little bit of German Sign Language, have a Deaf tour guide, and will be visiting Deaf oriented sites. The best part about it is that I will be completely immersed in ASL which will make me a better singer and interpreter. This trip will also count as an RID CEU (by the time this trip takes place I will be working as a certified interpreter- CEU's are furthering education requirements that all interpreters must continuously do through out their interpreting careers).

The trip costs $2,200 + the cost of a 3 hour credit course (around $500). The picture that I have attatched explained what all the money will pay for and exactly what we will be doing in Germany. I would appreciate anyone willing to donate!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
