Debt Payoff Journey
Do you remember in elementary school when you had to sell those “World’s Finest” chocolates to raise money for school? Somehow, you always ended up eating more of them than selling.
That’s kind of how I feel right now—I figured I’d try something similar here.
Hi, my name is Nisa. I’m 32 years old, and I’m on a journey to get out of debt and save up for a more fuel-efficient car. My job is moving an hour away, and with the rising cost of living, I’m doing everything I can to stay ahead—but it’s been tough.
Here’s a little about me:
My parents passed away when I was a child, so I grew up with different family members. I worked hard and earned scholarships to attend university, covering half of my tuition. The rest, I had to take out in student loans.
Coming from an immigrant family, the “acceptable” careers were doctor or lawyer. I initially pursued nursing, but as I continued my studies, I realized the emotional toll wasn’t something I could handle long-term. I earned my degree in health sciences and worked as a medical scribe for two years before finding my real passion in logistics.
I finally found a job I love in logistics, but along the way, through life’s obstacles and rising expenses, I accumulated debt. Despite working long hours—and even a second job—it feels like I’m not making enough progress. Interest rates have gone up, groceries cost more, and even with decent pay, it still doesn’t feel like enough.
That’s why I decided to create something meaningful to help bridge the gap. I designed a coloring book (yes, while working my second job on my breaks!) I poured countless hours into it. Learning new tools like Canva wasn’t easy with such little time, but I’m proud of the final product. My goal is to sell 6,300 books—or some combination of sales and support—to finally pay down this debt and save for a reliable car. On a personal note, my husband and I want to start a family soon, but daycare costs are overwhelming. Reaching this goal would free us up to prepare for that next chapter of our lives with less fear and more hope.
