We, Debbie Nicholls-Skerritt and Charmaine Headley, are two dance artists with a combined 58 years experience working from an African and African Diasporic aesthetic in Toronto, who use dance as a healing and empowering tool, which is driven and anchored by spirituality. This opportunity allows us to explore and develop choreographic processes starting with the deconstruction of African and diasporic traditional dances that will build and evolve movement to capture the essence of "Contemporary African Dance."

Working with four major choreographers from the Continent will allow us to explore, expand and tap into new ways of extracting and developing vocabulary to fuel new creations. Equally, this will colour and inform our teachings, benefitting our students and dancers alike.

We were able to secure partial funding to attend a two-week choreographer's intensive workshop at L'Ecole des Sables, Senegal, from October 22 to November 3, 2018. This crowdfunding campaign will assist with ongoing personal and ancillary expenses outside of the tuition and flight, which is covered through an Ontario Arts Council grant.
