Doctors Killed My Mom
This campaign is not only dedicated to the loving memory of my wonderful mother who was the victim of medical mistakes, but to you and your loved ones, as well as anyone who could likewise be misdiagnosed and improperly treated, and who ultimately succumbs to the third leading cause of death in the United States: medical error.
I'll never forgive myself for taking my mother to the emergency room of our local world class hospital for a relatively minor issue, and then agreeing to allow her to be admitted for observation. Don't get me wrong, we'd been down this path on numerous prior occasions, but this time I made the grave mistake of going home and leaving my mother in the care of people I hoped I could trust.
Since the details of what ensued are rather grim, I'll spare you all the horrors we experienced with each passing day. Suffice to say that had I remained at her bedside she would likely be sitting here next to me right now (and I would not be writing this through tears and intense heartache).
I'm barely able to cope with the overwhelming grief, pain, and loneliness, let alone my own sense of guilt. In a painstaking effort to not allow the wrongdoers to "get away with murder" I've been doing my best to pour through hundreds of pages of medical records which document many irregularities and errors.
Since our situation is just the tip of a very large iceberg, my dream is to have the resources to pursue this matter and bring to light the multitude of mistakes we experienced; the type of which occur all too often but which are rarely exposed. There are clearly many wonderfully talented medical practitioners, but unfortunately there are also far too many with inadequate training, knowledge, experience, insight, discernment, compassion, and other necessary skills (let alone proper oversight within the system itself).
What happened to us could happen to anyone, so my hope is that this campaign will help others avoid the type of nightmare we suffered. There needs to be much greater accountability by a profession which is sworn to save lives, but which all too often is ill-equipped to properly diagnose, treat, and/or care for the very people whose precious lives they are entrusted to protect.
