If you know me well, then you already understand the deep bond I share with Dolly. But for those who may not know the full story, I want to share how we found each other.

On October 21, 2021, I was driving north on the 95 in heavy traffic when I spotted a terrified little tortoiseshell cat on the median. Without thinking twice, I pulled over, ran to her, and scooped her up. As I carried her back to my car, all I could think was, “I’m allergic to cats!” regardless that that didn’t stop me. I brought her to a friend’s studio where they often foster cats, knowing she’d be safe there.

At first, Dolly was too scared to come out and greet anyone. But when I returned to visit, she crawled out from under a bookshelf and walked straight up to me. Despite my allergy, and the fact that my whole life I never exactly identified as a "cat person" something changed in that moment. I felt what it’s like to be loved by a cat, and somehow, miraculously, I wasn’t allergic to her at all. It felt like magic and fate. Dolly is my sweet angel baby, and I truly believe our connection spans lifetimes.

About two years ago, I noticed a tiny brown speck in her right eye. It didn’t seem serious at the time, but I took her to the vet just to be sure. At first, it was diagnosed as iris melanosis, but it has since progressed to melanoma. Unfortunately, this means Dolly will need to have her eye removed soon in order to stay healthy and live the joyful, luxurious life she deserves.
