Dominion is now 2 years and 5 months old and was born with Down syndrome. Based on medical records half (50%) of the babies born with Down syndrome have a heart defect and unfortunately Dominion is one of them. She has what is called atrial septal defect, which means there is a hole in the wall between the two upper chambers of her heart. The hole in her heart is causing blood to shunt between both sides of her ventricles causing her heart to fail, increasing pressure into her lungs and has caused her to have failure to thrive. She isn't growing and developing properly because her heart defect is blocking the normal process of development. The size of the hole increases on a daily basis and her growth/ development has been stunted to that of a 5 month old. 

Sadly, she has spent more time in the hospital than at her own family home and this has been devastating to the entire family who have exhausted all they have on her hospital bills and medical schedules. 

Everyday she depends on oxygen to stay alive and her heart is forced to work harder and enlarges. An open heart surgery is necessary to fix this problem because if not her heart will go into heart failure. According to her doctors the hole has gotten bigger and she needs the surgery as soon as possible. Please help us in saving her life.
