Educational Farm for Kids

Once I took my son (he is 6) to the village and he saw how a woman was digging out the potatoes from the ground and he asked her “Why do you keep potatoes under the ground? Do you protect them from thieves?” :)

We came to the idea of creating a garden after we realized that most children who live in cities think that fruits and vegetables are produced in supermarkets. So we decided to establish a farm on the land which our family owns where children can communicate with nature and be informed about agriculture. They don't imagine how plants grow, how animals are born, grow and are being taken care off. Most of them have never even seen cows, sheep, pigs and other animals in real life. I was even been invited to my daughter's class to tell the children how the agronomy is being organized and how people get food from nature. I remember children's excited faces when I was talking about unknown environment for them. Once my daughter (she is 9) was attending apple harvesting event. When she was back with full bag of apples we were surprised how excited she was and she was talking about that event all the time with great enthusiasm.
Our plan is to establish an educational farm on the land we own which sizes are 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres), on which we plan to plant 2.000 different fruit trees. Also a part of land will be allocated to build a small chicken coop and barn where we will keep cows, sheep, pigs, goats etc. We plan to organize classes and practical works for children in the farm that they could see and imagine (visualize) how agronomy and food making is done. They will take care of animals, will feed and bathe them, they will take care of trees, water trees and harvest the fruits. Also we plan to organize a biohumus production in the farm (a few markets agreed to give us their old fruits and vegetables, their quantity will grow), where kids can learn how to get fertilizer from different organic junk and how to create new life with that junk. They even can produce biohumus at their homes with their own junk, so they will be able to grow plants themselves and decrease the quantity of garbage. I'm deeply sure that after all these steps they will treat with the nature with huge responsibility. They will love nature, will keep it clean, be kind and take care of animals. Maybe some of them will become farmers in the future and take agronomy to a new level. Finally one of our goals is to keep away children from phones, tablets and computers (as you know they harm children and not only children eyesight, back, they have weak muscular system etc.) that they could use their time maximum effective and in the fresh air.

What will children learn in the educational farm?

Healthy lifestyle, to use healthy and pure food, love and take care of nature and animals, have imagination about agronomy.

Who will help us to teach children?

During my work experience I met a lot of specialists in agronomy, ecology and medicine sectors who agreed to find time to help us for free. Thanks to them.

Here is the list for what we need money
3.000 trees. $3 for 1 tree. Total - $9.000
Tools and equipment - $2.000
Barn for animals and place to produce biohumus - $3.000
Water channel - $1.000 (it will help neighboring lands to have water and use their lands as well)
Animals - a couple farmers promised to give animals for free. Total - $0

Also we'll spend about $3.000 from our savings to remove stones from land, plow the land and to build fence across the farm.

How are we going to support our farm?

We'll sell the part of fruits and vegetables from our garden. The other part kids will take home as a reward for their job and participation. Also we will sell the part of biohumus, the other part we'll use as an organic fertilizer for our trees and plants.

What will we do if we get more money than we need?

We'll buy a mini bus for children transportation, we'll build a greenhouse with hydroponic system to explain children how to grow plants without soil. Also we'll buy hail nets for fruit protection.

I think that such projects should be in all countries. As we want our children to grow in clean environment and be responsible for nature.

Thanks to all them who will support us financially and also them who couldn't support us, but they think that we are on the right way. If you think so please share our project.

Thanks to all of you and God bless you!

P.S. We will name trees after backers. Each backer will have a tree with his or her name.
