Emergency Care for Spot
❤️🐾 Please Help Spot Get the Answers and Medical Care He Desperately Needs 🐾❤️
This is an incredibly difficult post for me to make.I feel embarrassed having to ask for help, but sometimes life becomes overwhelming, and we have to find the courage to reach out when we can’t manage everything on our own. Today, I’m asking for help for my sweet boy, Spot. 💔
Spot has been sick for several months, but especially over the past four weeks, his condition has progressively worsened.
It initially started with high fevers, infections, and viruses. As time went on, things took a frightening turn. He began vomiting, became lethargic and dehydrated, stopped eating, and eventually became unable to go to the bathroom. This required emergency veterinary care, including enemas, hydration and medication to help him.
Watching him go through all of this has been to say the very least heartbreaking. I’ve been doing everything I can to help him, but we still don’t have exact answers about what is causing his illness.
What we DO know from xrays his small intestines are enlarged, one kidney is enlarged and abnormally shaped, however, bloodwork shows no issue in the kidneys. We also has free fluid in his abdomen, and his belly has been increasingly getting larger.
Spot has now been seen at three animal hospitals, and this coming Wednesday, he will be going back the the last one we visited in hopes that we can finally get some answers via a fasted ultrasound and hopefully determine the best way to help him.
Thankfully, he is eating some wet food, which is a small glimmer of hope in the middle of all this. ❤️ However, he still refuses to drink water on his own. I’ve been administering subcutaneous fluids and syringe-feeding him water because he will not drink unless I intervene. I’ve also been giving him medications morning and night and doing everything I can to keep him comfortable and hydrated.
My original veterinarian had suggested exploratory surgery, but ultimately feels Spot is not a good candidate for it. At this point, I am trying my very best to avoid putting his little body through more than it absolutely needs to endure. I want to find answers and help him, but I also want to be thoughtful about the procedures he undergoes and pursue the most appropriate next steps for him.
Right now, the possibilities being considered include lymphoma of the gastrointestinal tract, FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), thyroid disease, or another underlying condition. These are potential explanations, not confirmed diagnoses.
My veterinarians have recommended more extensive diagnostic testing to help us get closer to understanding what is happening inside his little body. The next step is an ultrasound, which may need to be sent out for further evaluation. Depending on the findings, he may also need biopsies, thyroid testing, and additional diagnostic work.
We are trying to navigate a complicated medical situation without knowing what the final diagnosis or cost of treatment will be.
💔 And this is where I have to be honest about the financial hardship I’m facing.
Between multiple veterinary visits already into the thousands, emergency treatment, medications, fluids, and the extensive testing still ahead, the stress and expenses have been adding up quickly. I’ve also had other emergencies involving my other cats and my own health. It feels like one thing after another, and financially, I am struggling.
On top of the veterinary expenses, Spot’s need for constant care has made it difficult for me to work. Because he refuses to drink water on his own and needs me to intervene to keep him hydrated, I cannot leave him for extended periods of time. I’m only able to be away from home for short periods before I need to return to care for him. This has significantly limited the time I can work at a point when my expenses are increasing.
I’m trying to balance caring for a very sick cat, keeping up with his medical needs, managing other responsibilities, and figuring out how to afford the next steps. I wish I could do it all without asking anyone for help, but right now, I simply need some support.
My cats are family, they are my babies. They mean the world to me, and when one of them is sick, I do everything I reasonably can to help them. Not knowing what is wrong with Spot, watching him struggle, and worrying about how I’m going to afford the testing he needs has been emotionally and financially exhausting.
I just want answers. I want to know what is making him so sick, and I want to give him every reasonable opportunity to get better while being mindful of his comfort and quality of life. ❤️🩹
🙏 My initial fundraising goal is $1,000 which if office visit, ultrasound and read, and potentially thyroid panel. Anything else has yet to be determined. Depending on what we discover and what additional care he needs, this goal may need to increase, and likely will.
I’m asking with a humble and grateful heart: if you are able to donate, even $5 or $10 would mean so much to us. Every little bit adds up and brings us closer to getting Spot the answers and care he needs.
If you cannot donate, I completely understand. Sharing this post can help us reach someone who may be able to help. And if all you can offer is a kind word, encouragement, or a prayer for Spot, please know that those things mean something to me, too. ❤️
Please keep Spot in your thoughts and prayers as we head back to the third animal hospital on Wednesday. I’m praying that this next visit brings us answers, a clearer plan, and hope for my sweet boy.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this, donate, share, or send us love and encouragement. I know so many people are struggling with their own challenges, and I will never take anyone’s kindness for granted.
It is not easy for me to ask for help, but I’m doing it for Spot. He deserves a chance to get answers, and I’m doing everything I can to be there for him.
🎯 Initial donation goal: $1,000
💕 Every dollar, every share, and every prayer makes a difference. Thank you for helping Spot and me through this incredibly difficult time. ❤️🐾
